Recently Bought a Capacitor
I bought a capacitor for my stereo cause my headlights would dim whenever I hit a hard bass line on the subs. I have one question. Is there a certain way you are suppose to charge it? Ive never done this before so some help would be great.
Here are the specs:
Pass-Through Design
1 Farad
digital display
up to 1,000 W RMS
16 Volt Rating
20 Volt Surge
24K gold plated terminals
3-1/16" D x 9-5/8"H
Thanks,

ya return it, if they wont take it back, i believe you can blow them up. so ive heard, never tried it. maybe you can let me know if thats true. bridge the + and - side and run away from it... will benifit your system more that way.
its lightning audio... I dont know much about capacitors, and plus my system was only 400 bucks but its all kicker componets. But if I were to get a new one would I beable to hook it up to a battery charger and let it charge or can it just hook up with only the battery?

that's very funny guys. can you provide CONCRETE PROOF that a capacitor is going to damage this guy's system?
been running one in my car since 1998 and it hasn't done a thing to mine.

its a capacitor
it charges when it gets power
it releases when a large load is put on the system
you have to discharge it before removing it
if you charge it and then install it it may discharge and blow your ecm or something else expensive
make sure you disconnect the negative battery terminal before you install it or mess with anything electrical

IVE ALWAYS RUN A CAPACITOR IN MY CARS AND NEVER HAD A PROBLEM.
you should read the directions that came with it ,mine you hook up power and ground(no amp hook up yet) and start the car. let it charge until no more. then tap the amp in to hte cap.. . My rf cap came with a fuse hookup to do all this but i dont think u need it.

Caps may not harm your system when used properly, but they are a lazy man's solution to a larger problem. It is a better practice to upgrade the "big 3" wiring and if you still have a dimming problem, get a higher output alternator. However, caps are "flashier", "easier" to install (although the big 3 wires are pretty easy to replace) and subject to all sorts of marketing hype. Hence their popularity.
