Front speakers quit
Front speakers quit
Just the other day, my speakers made an awful crackle and loud squeal, it was not continuous, but no sound was heard otherwise. The protection light would flash when the sound came from the speakers. I disconnected the front rcas, the sound would stop and my rear speakers would work normally. I hooked up the front speakers with the factory wiring behind the HU. Everything else has brand new wiring. So my question would be does the factory wiring change the impendence? I can hook the rear speakers up to the front channels and they work fine, so I know the channels are fine.
maximas are screwy like that, you gotta stick with factory specs when dealing with factory speakers. i just replaced my whole system cause i got tired of the ****ty blose system. i have a 95, maybe yours sounds better than mine did cause mine were blown after i cranked the crap outta them. either the speakers are blown or your rca for the front is shot.
i shoulda mentioned that i dont have the bose, and i have replaced all the speakers and ran new wires to everything from the amp, with the exception of just running the new front speakers wires to the factory wiring behind the HU( i hope that makes sense to you all). Its next to impossible to run new wire straight to the front speakers because of the plastic molex betwwen the door and chassis. If anyone knows of a somewhat easy way to do this let me know. I couldnt find any threads pointing to that.
The rcas aren't shot b/c i can switch the front and rear and the rear speakers play the front sound fine. Im thinking it has to do with impendance, the amp is working fine right now with just the rears hooked up, as soon as i hook the front speakers it goes into protection and no sound is heard.

In case you need to know what i am running here it is:
Eclipse 5442 HU, MRV-F407 running 2 sets of Boston Pro 6.5 LFs. They will play sound for a couple of seconds then if I turn it up slightly all h*** breaks loose. I know the speakers are old but Im almost positive they are not blown. Well maybe now that the god awful sound came from them.

I am going to be attempting to rewire the front speakers today. I have definitely isolated the problem to the front door speakers. I disconnected the Front speakers from the X-overs, leaving the tweets still connected, wired the X-overs back to the amp, and the amp didnt shut off.
So in case anyone was wondering, the factory wiring does change the impedance. Next time I wont be so lazy and run all new wire.
