Amp powers off itself

Hi guys:

I have a 5 channel amp with clarion head. Recently, the amp would power off itself all of the sudden without any protection light on. I had to turn off the headunit and turn it back on to make the amp sounded again. But the problem just goes on and off.

Do you guys know the reason? could it be the low voltage issue? but usually low voltage could also turn on the protection light, but it just didn't

Please advise

does it shut off with or without sound to the sub? if you disconnect the sub, does the amp still shut off?

my guess is you fried the amp

you need new fuses. take it out and examine it, if it looks like the tiny metal inside is broken apart, then yeah you need new ones.
see what kind ur amp has, then go to advance or any auto place and get the fuses. cheap fix.
i had that problem too. hope it works for you.

One of two things are happening. either the amp is getting too overloaded and shutting itself off,(even though the protection light isnt coming on) Or theres an internal problem with the unit itself. If it was a blown fuse, the amp wont come back on at all. You mentioned the one amp powers the whole system. How loud are you playing it?
Since you also disconnected everything and its still doing it, you have an internal problem with the amp, and either need to send it off for repair, or get a new amp. How old is the amp? Whats the make and model? is it still under warranty?

Could be loose remote wire, rca's, ground, + terminals, anything.

I will try to examine the fuses...but i don't think it's the fuses tho because the amp still power on.

I have an Ample amp, i don't play that loud....

i guess i will take the amp down and send it to repair

make sure its not crimped anywhere along its path or maybe the connection at the HU is loose.

Make sure the power and ground is secure in its terminals. Also ensure the power isn't pinched someplace--but not enough to actually short it.

I had an amp once that (for some reason) the allen screw got ever-so-loose, and it would cause the amp to go off and on.

My neighbor has a JL Audio 500:1 and had the same problem. Some newer amps have an auto shut off when a input voltage(RCA Audio) is not present. In his JL I just turned that switch off, where it will rely solely on the remote wire. Check your amp settings...... since you have looked over the basics.

Remote wire could be the simplest. Check for voltage at the remote wire when the amp shuts down.
