how to bridge an amp...

ok, first lemme say this, i don't know much about stereos. can someone please tell me what exactly bridging is? this is what i want to do... i have to fosgate punches in a bandpass box and i have 2 kicker 300 watt amps. instead of running one for both of them i want to run each amp to each sub so each one gets the most power. my question is, how do i get the most power out of my amp to only one speaker? thanks and sorry for being such a n00b!

Re: how to bridge an amp...

how many channels in each amp?

i am gonna assume 2 a left and a right.

basiclly you take 1 of the + and 1 of the - and connect it to the speaker.

i DON'T know which side for a kicker amp. try there web site. so FOR EXAMPLE

take the left channel of 1 amp (+) hook it to the (+) of 1 speaker

take the right channel of the same amp (-) hoook it to the (-) of the same speaker

repeat process for other speaker.

again it might be the RIGHT channel is the (+) and the LEFT is (-). if you wire it wrong or backwards you should not hear anything. worse case you blow a fuse.

hope this helps

ok so your saying, use the + on the right channel and the - on the left channel on ONE speaker and that gives all the amps power to the one speaker? thanks a bunch

I thought it was R- and L+ for all amps...or atleast I think it is on my Rockford amp.

Re: Re: Re: how to bridge an amp...

Since we're on the topic?

I have a pair of 10" Kicker C-10s in a ported enclosure, and I have a HiFonics Vulcan VIII, two-channel amplifier that I want to bridge in mono @ 4ohms to achieve the 180W power this amp can give me (the C-10s can handle a max of 125W each). I believe that the C-10s are 4ohms each (although the manual indicates both 4/8ohms). I like this little amp because it has been paired up with these Kickers before in another life (and another car) and would like to save some bread to use towards a CAI. My question is, how do I bridge this amp with these speakers to achieve the power I'm after?

Not all amps are the same for bridging setups. Some are R+ and L-, some are L+ and R- while others are R+ and L+.

Be sure to check your amps they usually have the bridging terminals listed right next to the terminals..
