Some audio advice

Here is my situation. Just bought a 1995 Max SE with the BOSE. I have an fairly new Apline CD player with iPod hook-up from my old car along with a 12" Infinity reference sub in box and a Kenwood 4-channel amp. In my previous car, I had the 4-channel amp bridged powering the sub, with 4 aftermarket speakers running off of the Apline.

In the Max, the BOSE is still working but the cd player is kinda flakey. I read where I can install an aftermarket CD player with the factory BOSE speaker using a $40 converter harness, but then the BOSE speakers are still 13 years old.

The other option I seen is going with a newer Pathfinder or 350Z BOSE headunit with custom brackets. I could sell the Apline and pretty much buy a PF or 350Z unit outright. But again I would have 13 yr old BOSE speakers and I would lose the iPod hook-up feature.

I really don't want to spend much money in this case, otherwise I would just install the headunit with new aftermarket speakers but that would cost ~$200-300 for decent ones which I don't have right now.

Anyone have any suggestions or ideas?

remove the old bose system and start over. Pickup some decent speakers and run them off your 4 channel. Just save up for a decent amp for your 12" sub.

hi, i couldnt post a new thread so ill hijack this one. i have looked over this forum for awhile looking for my answers but i wasnt able to find them all so ill ask here. I have a 96 maxima se with the bose sound system. im wanting to install a infinity kappa 12.1 into my car while keeping the head unit. while looking around this forum im a little confused. i saw at one point that i could just tap into a speaker line and hook it to the amp because the head unit doesnt give off very much power so it will work. is this right? or do i need an A06-**** adapter or whatever? or that other converter thing? I have no clue where to start with this as all my audio work as been done with aftermarket cd decks. i pretty much want an easy way to do this while keeping the sound quality.
ill be using the rockford fosgate 400.2 or the mtx tc4002 amp if it makes a difference.

-Thank you for your help and sorry if you have had to answer this 400 times.

Help

Hello again. i havnt found my answer yet but was wondering if i would need this for my setup.

http://www.thesourcecc.com/estore/pr...ine&tab=1#more

i have a 2 channel rockford fosgate 400-2 amp and will be running one sub. thats a 4 channel SPEAKER LEVEL CONVERTER that will work with my 2 channel amp wich will work with one sub?
is there anything different from that and the low level converter or whatever i keep searching? help would be much appreciated

Thank you for your time.

-my amp also has a crossover switch if that helps. it has high-pass, all-pass, or low-pass operation if that helps. Thanks.

oh, i did. i searched for like 4 hours but got more then one answer. im still stuck on the high/low converter or the Ao6 adaper or the LOC. no clue on which one to get or if i should tap in before or after the bose amp. if you could either answer or give me a link telling me which options i could use, or which are the best that would be great. i looked at all the FAQs and im still stuck. am i dumb? who knows.

in a post someone will say YEAH, use the high/low converter. someone else will come in at the bottom and put: nah, you dont need one of those. just tap into it using a cut off rca cable and you will be fine.

Which one?

Splicing in rca's will work because the bose has low level outputs already, but you must use the signal coming from BEFORE the bose amps.

perfect, thank you very much. not sure where the bose amp is but ill find it. my amp doesnt have speaker level inputs but i guess that doesnt matter. im glad i can just do that because im sure amping then using the high/low converter will make the sound quality worse. anyways im off to buy some rca cables. Thanks again.

i have a black 96 maxima se 5 spd

-looks as though theres no amp for the 4th gen. i now assume i can just cut into the wires before any speaker to get the signal. that makes it pretty easy i guess.

ok, i have done a lot more searching and i have found a lot of posts that say i need a PAC AOEM-NIS2 adapter to convert the ohms. one post says i need a PAC SNI-35 (i think a LOC). a lot of posts were saying that the PAC AOEM-NIS2 is a pretty good way of doing it. if someone could confirm that this is a good way to do it, ill buy it from ebay now.

-again, i have a 96 maxima se with the bose head unit. so each speaker has an amp.

if just tapping into the speaker wires is the same thing, ill just do that. i just want to be sure what im doing before i start.

thank you for your time.

-also ill be using the rockford fosgate 400.2 if that makes a difference

Bose amps are on each individual speaker no the 4th gen. You are wasting your money, you could just splice rca's to get signal to the bose amps.

Thanks for the reply. ill just splice the speaker wires in the trunk before they get to the rear speakers then.

sound quality should be pretty good too right?

Thanks.

Sound quality will only be as good as the Blose HU can put out. That's your weakest link at this point.

ok, i almost have everything installed. i just tapped into the plugs on the the rear speakers using cut rca cables. i was just wondering where i can get the remote signal from? i searched and i saw people were using the red wire that was going into the rear speakers. could i just pull the plug and tap into that one for the remote? someone else on another page said using the red wire would cook my amp.

Thanks for your help.

ok i got everything done. i just ran the remote to my drivers seat and back to the amp power with a switch. works for me. pounds pretty good. i was wondering if anyone knew where i could get my amp tuned? i would do it myself but i dont have one of those ocilliscope things. if someone could explain how to do this by ear i would give it a try. im more then happy to take it somewhere to get done though.

in my amps book it says the actual power is 460W rms x1 @ 4 ohm (though only 400 on the box) and my sub is only 350w rms.

i put my hz at 110 and the gain at between 1/3 and 1/2 and it was pretty good. im scared of cooking something though so im not going to use it anymore till i get it tuned right.

Thanks.
