Nothing but cracking coming from speakers..

I have a 2001 Maxima with Bose and one day I am driving listening to music and everything is fine. I go home for a couple hours, then I leave again, and no sound is coming out of the speakers for the radio, cd, or tape. The only sound I hear is a cracking whenever there would be bass in a song. The headunit still works and operates the same, but no sound. It seems like something electrical, because if I turn on the headlights, or press the brakes, the cracking gets louder. Now, I just had transmission work done, and the transmission place claims that after having the trans worked on, that electrical failures can occur to various things in the car. My question is what could have possibly happened to make this occur, and what could I do to fix it? Is it something to do with an electrical problem?? Could it just be a crapped out headunit, or maybe a speaker problem? I am just totally lost on this one Thanks for your help.

Thats a load of crap, transmission work shouldn't cause any issues with your audio. If they may have caused damage to it the are responsible for it.

Well I haven't spoken to them, and I am only referring to the paper work that they sent before the repair of the transmission. It was a "what can I expect after my new transmission" FAQ type thing. I am only referencing that to make it easier for help diagnosing the problem. Like I said I am totally lost on all of this.
