Hooking GPS up to Stock Head Unit

Got a 2002 Max with bose and a 05 Xterra with R/F head unit. I want to do this with both. I posted in both thenewx.org and here cause I know here has a lot of good audio people. SO here is the question.

Got a question for everyone. This was a tough one to find on the internet too. I am thinking of wiring the audio of the GPS to the speakers of the Xterra. Now this is how I was wanting it done.

I want to be driving listening to the radio and if the GPS needs to chime in then it would be louder than the music and say turn left on whatever street and the music would keep on playing. IS this possilbe. I thought maybe if you spliced into the output for the speakers from the H/U or amp.

What do you guys think. This is the ideal situation for me. If this cant be done then i'll attach a FM reciever, but then if the GPS needs to warm me i wont be able to hear it to switch over to the station from the radio.
