Swap HU in 02 Bose.

I have done the search but most of the links are dead.
I want to dump the Bose and put in a regular single CD unit.
I have the mounting bracket.
A friend tells me that I have to power the bose speakers, can I do that by cutting and splicing?
Any links or advice must appreciated.

each speaker (as far as I know; and please, correct me if i am wrong) has three SEPERATE amps. the in-dash HU, the rear deck, and one at each speaker. I could be wrong about the door speakers, but it doesn't matter because there isn't really a work around, you MUST replace the speakers. Or it will sound like crap. There was a company i think that made an aftermarket unit for like $150 that will send the correct voltage, but i think that was to do the opposite mainly, change the speakers and keep the HU. Though, i think either way it's a rip-off cause it still only sounds as good as the original system. Spend a couple extra hundred and buy some half decent speakers. Saves a LOT of frustration.

Besides, this site is TERRIBLE with dead links and people who are sick of re-teaching everything

For the broken links, try replacing .../showthreads/... with .../oldthreads/...

There is a sticky about that.

Coming back to your original question, I have no idea what StillenMax is talking about, but he could be very likely right because I dont know $hit about stereos.

BUT, I can afirm you can replace the Bose HU and keep the speakers + Bose Amp. I just did mine yesterday (though I still have some questions about the install) and the damn thing is louder than ever.

My new HU is a clarion with music catcher, and the volume goes all the way to 33 and the speakers handle it all, with no distortion of any kind. It is really loud now.

Now, in order to make the aftermarket unit work with the bose components, you will have to buy a Metra Kit or PAC kit. I dunno each is better quality, but I "accidently" bought both and i will be comparing the sound quality next weekend.
