What HU to go with stock Bose?

I want to upgrade my HU since almost all of my CD's are skipping, and I want something with a nice EQ. I was thinking about the Pioneer Premier DEH-P690UB.

http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...H-P690UB.html#

Any other suggestions? Looking for something for ~$200. Thanks.

granted i dont have a lot of headunit experience, but this new pathfinder mp3/cd i dropped in is friggin sweet. holds 6 cds, plus then i can hold another 10 in my visor cd thing - and each cd (mp3 cd) can hold 140+ songs. so thats over 2500 songs i can have access to while driving. thats about 25% of my library

Can't comment on the headunit, as I've never seen one. However, I notice that it has a USB input. Forget about CD's. I have about 1,500 CD's on disk. Not on CD's, either. USB drives. That, alone, has made switching the HU out worth it.

I'm pretty sure the Metra unit is only 20 bucks. The PAC will probably run about 50. Guess that's the one that Choiiiiiii(can't count the number of exclamation marks...wtf why make a name like that...anyway) was referring to. I think the PAC unit has built in gain switches, though. That is a definite plus.

To the OP, as long as you're getting a head unit with preouts of decent strength (4v or higher), get the Metra. Cleanest, simplest, cheap, and works every bit as good as the others, if not better.

+1, but always remember key words ... ignorance is bliss.

I found the pre outs to not be so hot, with my system. They are 6V. Volume was way too low. Ended up having to get a couple of LOC's and hooking up to the line levels.

Sounds like a head unit preout issue. Ive done numerous Eclipses (all of which 5v preouts) and they work great.

Yeah, I guess so. I just wanted to be done, with the install. I was getting very tired of pulling my dash apart every 20 minutes over a 3 day period.

So no one has clearly stated if the PAC is worth getting over the Metra for volume, simplicity, quality, etc. etc.
Im gonna be using a Pioneer HU, stock Bose speakers for now.
