I have a question about upgrading alarm systems

Ok I have the Viper 771xv and I want the one with the screen, so I was wondering if I just bought it do I have to rewire everything or is it all plug in play (where i just swap out the connectors) or can I just cut the stock wires and solder them to the new harness?

Or should I not even bother? I just have a tendency to think I forgot to lock my car....

You need to swap the brain, antenna and remote. All wires are the same but actual units are not. LED (771) is Not a Responder whereas the 791 is.

I really wouldn't suggest attempting it if you've never done these type of installs. Theres programming involved, also you wont get the thing warrantied.

hmmm

thanks for the info.
How much would an average shop charge for something like this? And will they still warranty it if I bought it on ebay?

Depends on how long they take and if problems arrive during it. It would normally fall under a hourly rate which around here is $65/hr and up.

Fleabay = absolutely zero warranty. Hence the reason I try to encourage everyone to use an authorized one to keep their LIFETIME warranty and theft deductible coverage.
