i've been wanting to get rid of my sony single-din deck and getting a double din 7 inch navigation system/deck and all that stuff for my maxima...it has bluetooth, ipod, navigation, hard drive built in, dvd playback, and its running for $700 installed...some opinions maybe?

Seems like a very good price, especially installed. Does that install price include the trim kit? I had mine custom done so it cost me a bit more but it looks good so i think its worth it. I have the Pioneer AVIC-D3.

I like the fact that it has the built in hard drive. Thats cool for the navigation aspect of it, but i dont really see the point of it for music capabilities unless you have gillions of CD's laying around in your car, which most people dont anymore. I know i only use my ipod now and if you do have a gillion CD's, most people would have already uploaded the songs onto their ipod or mp3 player, which pretty much makes the media storage capabilities pointless. Its a cool innovative concept though, guess it means you dont have to carry around your mp3 player.

Another thing to think about is the number of moving parts it has in it. My D3 has the cd insert above the screen, meaning less moving parts than the strata which has to tilt the screen to acess the cd insert.

Just my two cents. GL w/ whichever product you decide on. This might get moved to the audio/electronics section.

I don't think the HDD can be used for music.

No it can't. The HDD is for navigation only. For around $700 it seems pretty decent. I wonder if the steering wheel controls on my 01 can be used for some of the basic functionality...

Oh ok yall are right on the HDD and not being able to rip music. I looked at a review of the AVIC Z1 right after the strada, i guess i was thinking about that. You can get the cables so that your steering wheel controls still work.
