Sub+amp or insides + midbasses + amp

I'm going back and forth on where to take my setup next...

I listen primarily to punk and some rap, with a little jazz and disco mixed in. So I'd prob. appreciate the clarity of new amped insides more.

But the stock speakers are OK and a 15" sub would be cool in the summer.

Here's what I'm thinking:

(1) Dayton 15" HO sub + some bridgeable stereo amp

or

Dayton RS's in front + Tang Band 6.5"s in the rear + Profile AP1040

I really don't feel like dropping $600-700 to get everything, I'd rather get a y-pipe. Plus I like how my car performs and handles, and don't really want a 70# box in the trunk.

Anyone have inside speakers that have enough low end extension for rap music (like down to the low 30s)???

Most here, myself included, would tell you to do mids/highs and a 4ch amp first. However, you keep contradicting yourself, and YOU are the only one who can decide what it is you really want.

Your stock speakers are ok...
BUT you'd appreciate the clarity of new mids/highs more
BUT a 15 would be cool in the summer (not sure why it would only be cool in the summer but ok lol)
BUT you don't want the weight and would rather get a y-pipe

See what I mean?
You can't have your cake and eat it too...no door speakers are going to play very well at 30 hz, with maybe the exception of our moderator here. But like I said, most audio enthusiasts are going to say do the mids/highs and amp first.

I agree with kpr10is.

Pick one:
- Replace stock speakers with aftermarkets and 4 channel amp for clarity.
- Get a sub and amp for coolness in the summer?
- Get the y-pipe for performace

Plus your sig. says performance > looks so get the y-pipe. It's probably the cheapest of the three options as well.

By the way, that's the first I've seen someone use the "#" to represent the word pound.

I am experimenting with a pretty simple setup ran active with full range 3 inch drivers and 8 inch mid bass...would save you money on speakers and amplification...

I have been toying with the idea for a while, since you can glass some pods for the 3s fairly easy and use your amp's crossovers to cross the mid-tweets at ~2-300 hz and the mid bass below that.

So far impressions have been solid. I mounted the 3s in coffee cups and played with position. A pillars with the passenger side on axis with the driver and vice versa worked really well. I just lowered the gain slightly on the left side and got DEAD center imaging past the windshield...

Just something to consider, I will finish the setup in a months time when I am out of school...

It's the pound symbol... what's wrong with that?

I'm getting the y one way or another. I just don't wanna drop 1K on this car right now. I think I'll get the whole system piece by piece.

I'd start with speakers and amplifier first... punk and subwoofer don't really go hand in hand..especially a 15 (overkill to begin with)
