Rewiring Stock BOSE harness
Rewiring Stock BOSE harness
I've been lurking here for a long time, reading up and whatnot, but its time to ask for help because I'm really stuck.
A few months ago my car was broken into and all audio related stuff was stolen. I don't care for most of it since it was mostly free and very old RF stuff, although I do miss my AVN. Anyway the thieves cut all wires in the process, that I'm trying to replace at the moment.
I got the wiring harness that the stock Bose is supposed to plug into from eBay, directions say I just need to match the colors and solder. Except most wires don't match.
Here is what the directions said:
Here's the harness:

Here's a pic of my current mess:

On the pic:
1) I assume these are for the stock speakers, but the striped wires don't match. Also in each pair there's a bare wire, is that ground?
2) Too many red wires that need to go somewhere.
3) This is probably antenna wire. Green is ground right?
Any pointers or diagrams would be helpful.

Here is what the directions said:
Yellow is for the Memory and is always powered
Red is for the ignition, it becomes powered when you turn on your car
Orange is a dimming feature not always used
Black is the ground.
Blue and Blue with white stripe turns on your power antenna and/or you AMP
The 8 remaining wires are all for your speakers the ones with Black strips are the grounds
The white wire goes to left Front positive on Speaker
The Gray wire goes to the right Front positive on Speaker
The Green Wire connects to the Left Rear positive on Speaker
The Violet Wire Connects to the Right Rear positive on Speaker
If there are RCA wires on this they go to your amp.
Just Connect one wire at a time and you are set.
Plugs directly into your cars wiring harness to make the install quick and easy

by bare wire you mean uninsulated? each harness will have a negative lead that runs parallel with the signal wire running to your front and rear speakers, this is part of the shielded cable system to help eliminate any outside interference. both of these wires are negative and should be grounded. being that these are replacement harnesses, there should be respective wires on each harness.
this might help if its a 96-99 i30 or maxima with bose premium system
Wiring Harness Wire Guide:
This is as if you were looking at the harness connected to your car dead on with you holding the connectors with the top row missing 2 connection points in the middle. These numbers are verbatim from the mechanics book for a 1996 infiniti i30 with a bose premium sound system.
Smaller Harness:
16_______12
15_14_13_11
11 = Shield Wire Ground (ground wire runs with signal cables(+ and -) for rear BOSE amplifiers to shield their signal)
12 = Amp On Signal Wire (turns on all 4 BOSE amplifiers)
13 = Left Rear -
14 = Left Rear +
15 = Rear Right -
16 = Rear Right +
Larger Harness:
10_8 ___4_2
9_7_6_5_3_1
1 = Front Left -
2 = Front Left +
3 = Front Right -
4 = Front Right +
5 = Power Antenna
6 = Battery (this ensures you keep your presets when your car is turned off)
7 = Illumination Constant (wont dim when lights are on, most cases you would use this)
8 = Illumination Switch (will dim your radio when your lights are on)
9 = Shield Wire Ground (ground wire runs with signal cables(+ and -) for front BOSE amplifiers to shield their signal)
10 = ACC/Ignition (the red wire

Its a 2003 SE with BOSE 6cd changer originally, sorry for not specifying.
bare = uninsulated you are correct.
biggest problem is that the car wires are not labeled, so even if I know the harness wires, its hard to match them if the colors aren't matched.

Found this diagram, basically the same as you posted but with color codes. Some of em don't make sense tho, what color is L, PU, or whats the difference between BR and B/R.
The new harness I got has wires labeled correctly, but the colors are completely random

The harness you bought is meant to wire up to an aftermarket headunit and plug into the oem nissan harness. You cannot match those wires, you need to get the FSM or use the post above and directly hardwire your headunit to them.
And I think you are mistaken. I plugged that harness into the BOSE unit to check if it fits and it does. But you are right about one thing, I can't match the wires

I found the same harness from metra http://www.installer.com/item/displa...php?it=71-7550
except this one seems to have different wire colors. Could this be what I need?
fuck there is a lot of useless confusion in this thread. nismos the harness he bought is a factory rewire harness, for wiring up a stock radio when the stock harness is missing. look at the pic he posted...its a male harness
Factory Service Manual...would have every factory wire color in your entire car.
That Metra harness you linked is the same exact thing you have, same colors and all. Aftermarket wiring harnesses have all the wire colors universal whether it is a factory rewire harness for a factory radio or whether its for aftermarket. Car manufacturers aren't so nice as to have their wiring match.
From the sounds of it you should let a professional installer do this for you ("green is ground right?"), but im in a good mood so I'm going to list what you need to connect, so you can just connect the wires together anyway.
Wire Function - Aftermarket wire color - Factory wire color
Constant 12v - yellow - purple
Acc power - red - yellow
Amp turn on - blue/white - green/white
Illumination - orange - red/white
Dimmer - orange/black - red/yellow
Left Front (+) - white - white
Left Front (-) - white/black - black
Right Front (+) - gray - green
Right Front (-) - gray/black - red
Left Rear (+) - green - brown
Left Rear (-) - green/black - black/red
Right Rear (+) - purple - blue
Right Rear (-) - pueple/black - black/white
Note to anyone else reading this: these colors are for Bose only.

Thanks, I appreciate the help. I'll try this tomorrow after work.
I'd like to think I'm smart enough to do this myself and keep my money.
I'm not a stranger to wires (electrician by trade), and I can solder pretty well. Just got confused by the whole color incompatibility thing.

Whats an FSM?

Colors just appear different due to the bad pic. The 71-7550 will look nearly identical to the AI harness you already have.
