Alarm (Ungo brand) Not Working - Replace Main Unit?
Hey everyone -
I have a reasonably simple Ungo alarm that recently stopped receiving signals from the remote. I installed new batteries in the remote, and the signals are being sent out, but the Ungo main unit seems to not receive them. I was wondering if I could just replace the main unit and use the new remotes, instead of having to rewire the whole car.
It seems logical that I could do this, but I thought I would check with everyone first. I have a starter kill on the existing alarm, if that makes any difference.
Thanks!

The alarm should have it's own separate antenna. Off of the brain, it's typically a 3-5 wire harness shrink-wrapped in black. I know on DEI and Compustar units the alarm is usually mounted on a windshield. I'm not very familiar with Ungo units though.

If its a cheap unit, it may not have an antenna at all, or sometimes its just a 6" wire. Id take it to an alarm shop as they know what they're doing... My guess is its the remote.
Also, only powered antennas need to be plugged in for the remote to work..
And chances are if he just plugs in a new brain, there is programming that needs to take place before things will work properly.

There was a steady decline in reception, to the point where both remotes needed to be right next to the front hood for the alarm to work. That's why I figured it was the brain.
But I'll take it apart Saturday and see if I can find the antenna - maybe there is a short there.
