Painting dash kit?

For a 2003 w/ Bose – replacing HU only:

Has anyone tried painting their dash kit? I’m getting the Pioneer FH-P8000BT and it has a high gloss black finish. If I go with the Scosche kit I was wondering if it would look like crapola if I tried painting it black to match the HU and the climate control. I’d rather spend the $15 and mess around with it instead of the $120 for the GXE kit and leave it alone.

Thanks,

Paint and please post pics... I had scosche kit and it matched the trim on my 00. I had a black kenwood HU and I wanted the kit to match the OEM dash trim more than the HU. Bought the GXE center vent for my 03. It fits better and looks more clean..

you'll be fine as long as you prep it correctly. I painted my wife's silver, came out great. make sure you clean it THOROUGHLY before beginning, then a few coats of primer, then a few coats of paint of your color choice. You can clear coat it if you want, I didnt however as i didnt want the glossy look, it still holds up pretty well for having been done 2 years ago.

Right on. Thanks.

I should be able to tackle the project in a couple of weeks. I'll post pics when I'm finished.
