Installing tweeters correctly

Hi gang, this thread is actually a real question

I'm preparing to install my Rainbows and looking through the included hardware to see how to install the tweeters in a car that did not have bose, and therefore not having a place to install them. I want to put them in the stock locations as I travel to Baltimore and don't want my car to look like it has something expensive inside (relatively).

Basically, I know I have to cut a hole in the door panel and put the flush-mount cup through, but how do I secure the mount there? There's nothing in the directions about this, only some not-really-useful-info about the angle-mount cup.

How should I proceed?

If you cut the hole right, it should be a pressure fit.

That's what I was thinking, but it won't vibrate itself out?

you could do the pressure fit, but the SLCs came with a way to mount the tweeters like that

there are brackets that bolt into the magnet of the tweeter, use those

I'll look tonight and see what I can do with my brackets. There weren't any instructions for some of the hardware, so some of it I had to guess about.

it should have come with some kind of u bracket (might not look exactly like those).

another idea for location is in the kick panels, like so (stolen from don):

this is probably how i'll go.

Interesting, but goes against my "stock-looking" requirement.

I'll check out the brackets tonight and see if I can use them.

out of sight > stock placement as far as thievery issues.

ideally you should come up with a couple acceptable positions and see which one sounds the best (double sided tape and give it a listen).

you could always put them up in the side like so, but then again it kind of was a lot of work.. would the sound quality be better for my location or from the stock door mounted ones?

Are the woofers/mids in the stock door location? Is there enough room to mount the tweeters on the same bracket?

U can use hot glue to put them in the stock location. U can find it at Wal-Mart, Lowe's, or Home Depot.

most tweeters have brackets like the ones in bigleman's pix. either way.....putting some hot glue or something on the back is a good way to keep it from vibrating out.

Out of curiosity, what size are the stock tweeters that are in the A Pillars?

I suggest to find bose a-pillars at a wrecking yard for your car. Just mount them to the back of the a-pillar (I used a tape and then a layer of adhesive foam to prevent rattling).
