**The Official Stereo Disguise (fake face) thread**
I keep hearing about people getting their cars broken into and their audio equipment stolen, so I thought I'd share pics of the fake face I made a while ago for my double DIN Kenwood DVD/CD/NAV HU.
For those of you guys who don't have the luxury of parking your car in a garage at night, or in safe places all the time, it might be a worthwhile investment to make a fake face to conceal your expensive head unit! Don't give a thief a reason to break into your car! If they see a crappy head-unit, they'll assume you don't have a nice audio system and move on to another car!
If you have made a fake face (I know some of you have) then post up pics, share how you made it, provide feedback and ideas etc etc.
I used my old OEM '99 Bose stereo for three reasons:
1. It was starting to give me the dreaded "Err" message
2. OEM look
3. Since it has a wrap-around face, unlike previous Maxima year head-units, it made for the perfect candidate for this project
I also did this on my camaro back in 1992 and have never had my car broken into. (pics to follow of my lovely AM only HU)
Note: I moved the Kenwood HU back about 3/8 inches for two reasons:
1) It stuck too far out IMO and looked bad
2) With it recessed, it gave my fake face that OEM look.
I'll let the pics do the talking. Feel free to ask questions/comment.

It sure looks ugly!! After I was done, I sanded all the rough edges and put felt around the edges so as to not scratch/damage my Kenwood HU (not shown in pic).

The 95 Bose HU doesn't lend itself to the hang method w/o building a ledge off the back of the face; kind of like what Josh (Ptatohed) did on his fake face. See link above.

heres a bad pic of a Civc Si my shop did at work years ago (before i was employed there, however ). But I heard this turned out awesome. The black part you see where there should be a pocket is actually the stock cd player face, upside down. You'd flick a switch, and the stock face would motorize downwards (towards you) and fold away while simultaneously the aftermarket player was motorized forwards. Took almost a month to compete this to get it perfect.

^^^That's pretty slick mendon99!!
We modified the stock radio bracket.
In a nutshell, we:
1. Took the OEM radio bracket completely out of the car and detached it from the radio.
2. Layed it flat on the workbench and pounded the areas where the bolts go completely flat, thus giving us more useable and drillable area.
3. Used a ruler and marked the same holes about 3/8" inches back.
4. Attached to new HU and achieved the nice flush look!
