JL VS. Memphis Which should I get?

Right now im working on my 4th system and I wanted to try something new either JL or memphis. Is there anyone who has purchased amp and woofer from these two? I know the W7's are awesome but I haven't heard a MOJO though Maybe you guys could help me decide on this!

Not many 'round these parts use those products. We at maxima.org have a different taste, if you will, when it comes to car audio.

Of the 2, a Mojo can be had for less money and give you just as much bang as the W7 or more with proper power, they get damn loud. But I would much rather have a Fi or Idmax or something..

The W7 is a complete waste of money. We had a customer a week or 2 ago that had his 12W7 sent in to JL to be fixed (reconed maybe, cant remember), they got $450 out of him for it. Man, what a steal.

I got my JL12W7 for 200, and spent around 35 on a box materials, and got a 2cuF ported box, and it bangs.. Its powered by a JL500/1..and sounds pretty clear, even with the Parametric EQ at 45-50hz, 4+ db (Bass Boost)

But the Memphis MCD1000 amp is one hell of a beast.. I played with one over at a pawnshop, and that thing was pounding the crap out of my infinity kappa perfect 12s

Of the two I would go with the Memphis Audio equipment. I haven't bought from them but I have heard and was considering buying until I got entangled in the .org's Audio Thread. When I did hear them they were two 12's in a fiberglass enclosure in a Blazer. Now I want either Rainbow or Alumapro. Don't know yet. Right now leaning towards the Alumapro.

id go with the memphis due to the fact of the cost and how high jl's are priced. i feel overpriced(just my opinion) but FlipCpt45 you got a hell of a deal for $200 dollars. not to stray away from jl or memphis but you can buy a mtx 9500 for cheaper then the jl. bfore anyone reacts the 9500 isnt your typical circuit city speakers. its good quality stuff. or how about an alpine type x. (just throwing out some ideas)

Don got JL gear in his ride. True story.

jk...

but for the money, you can get much better gear. JL is pretty much mainstream stuff with one hell of a marketing department. They don't sound bad either, but again for the price, it's not worth it.

I am going to tell you something that no one in this thread has told you. Buy what you find sounds best. If you think a 25 dollar 20 year old piece of audio equipment sounds great to you, buy it and use it. Everyone's acoustical taste is different so its important to get what you like.

There are alot of very good audio companies as stated above by the guru's, but those are all audiophile grade companies that can easily break the bank if you arent prepared for it. For the prices that you pay though for JL, those audiophile grade companies are starting to look like a good alternative.

Personally, i think jl is meh, i like their amps though.

OT!!! What i really want to try, is one of those PPI Precision power Art 600.1 :P, every time i think about that amp, i remember back to when i was on ebay bidding on one, and the guy banned me from his auction cuz he thought i was just effin' around, and he only gave me like a day to respond to his email. I could have had that amp for < 350$.. and i ended up buying a JL 500/1 because i was desperate on buying an amp :P

"whatever floats ya boat"

The motto I go by when it comes to audio because people opinions have not been my best friends when shopping...
