iPod with amp but no HU?
iPod with amp but no HU?
So an odd question for you audiophiles.
Some of you may know I have a classic 1970 Triumph sportscar. Anyhow, I would like (for the sake of authenticity) to use the original AM/FM radio (no stereo, no tape, no CD, etc) in the original dash location. Even though it will sound terrible (only uses 2 speakers!). I want it there for looks, not to actually use.
So my question is this: I use my iPod for all my music. Is it possible to wire an iPod directly to an amp (which would run 4 speakers) and control the music that way, without using a head unit at all? I know I'd have no radio stations and no sound control other than the basic ipod equalizer and volume, but that's fine by me.
Any ideas appreciated...

Absolutely. A signal is a signal, you won't be able to control it as well as you would with an A/M HU, but it will work. I test amps at work with an ipod for signal. You just need a 1/8" to RCA wire.
yup yup, thats how i tested my amp when it had actually been the pre-outs on my HU that had gone bad, and when i figured out that my RCAs were the culprit when i had some really bad signal coming from the head unit..
Just run a wire to your glove box/center console.
...if applicable

For everyone that hasn't seen Josh's GT6 build, you're really missing out. I've got a colleague of mine that's building up an old MGB checking your thread every day just in case there's an update
