????? > 15" Kicker L7

Fill in the blank. Right now I have a 15" Kicker L7 in a small ported box. I am looking to get something that's just as loud but punches harder. I also want it to hit lows just as good as the L7. I was looking at the MTX Jackhammers. The 400rms version not the cheaper ones. I think I prefer a dual subs (ported) as opposed to one sub. I do not want to spend over $400 since that's the cost of the jackhammers.

Any recommendations? (Keep price range in mind)

If you want the lows and louder, get a 15.

why dual sub if you can get same power from 1? Subs are already heavy to begin with...

Well that's just it. I'm really asking more than anything. I've had several subs over the past few years but never two good 12s so I figured something like 2 12" type-x's or jackhammers would be louder than the 15" L7. Is that true?

not even sure...although a 15" with the right amp should definitely do you justice...

I got a 12L7 with a 1000 watt rms alpine amp and I get more bass than I'll ever need with amp moderately turned up. (car can barely take it) Not the cleanest bass I've heard/felt but definitely enough...maybe you are looking into more SQ and not so much SPL (kickers notorious for strong SPL, weak SQ)...or maybe you should check your amp and think of upgrading that? If you are looking for straight bass, I think of the 15" L7 as one of the strongest in that field....

If you want to go with a pair of 12"s, Even a pair of SSD's has the ability to obtain your goals.

getting dual 12s is fine and will get damn loud. but i just like the low end of a 15.

i say get a 15" Q or BL, feed it ~1kw, in a nice ported box and it'll definately make your ears feel funny.

If he could find 05' or prior model, I would agree with you. It will be a PITA to find 2 12"s in similar condition though. Not a huge fan of the current design. It has a few flaws.

there are plenty of subs which will get louder than an L7.

XXX <--so hot
DDs
BTLs
etc.

the enclosure is extremely important as well.

and asking for "something just as loud but punches harder" makes 0 sense.

Best advice so far I think. That's a great idea. Just need all the facts since my last attempt at making a box failed miserably. I know I need cut MDF, some type of sealant glue, carpeting, a drill, screws, what else?

Just use some good wood glue during the assembly. if you're going to use screws, always predrill first to reduce panel splitting. also, don't use an excessive amount of screws since it will start to weaken the joints. i personally use a nail gun. it's so much faster and cleaner looking.
