how far up the years are bose speakers plug and play starting from the 2000 model year? im looking to use 5th gen speakers in my 98 and i would like to know if they would work. anyone?

You want to do a bunch of work for zero improvement in sound? If thats the case, then yes anything is possible with enough work. It would take a lot unless you are keeping the amps you already have. The 4th gens have 4 individual amps at each speaker and no sub, the 5th gens have one amp on the rear deck, 4 speakers and a sub. So it all depends on what parts you are trying to replace.

That being said, don't waste your money. Go aftermarket.

 

thanks for the response. but if i wanted to go aftermarket then i would not have created this thread asking the question. as far as the info you provided, that is helpful to know. i did not know the speakers did not have seperate amps. as to what i wanted to replace, i wanted to use the speakers and the sub. i think my deck would be ok for it. its from a 2002 pathfinder and the car in question is a 2001 max.

 

You'd have to keep your existing amps at each speaker, only replacing the speakers themselves. The 5th gen factory 8" has a very small amp attached to the bottom of the sub itself, so youd have to run signal wires from the radio, power, and ground to the subwoofer amp.
I realize that, but it is still in my best interest as an installer and a member of this forum to keep you from wasting your time or money or both

 

you sir, seem to know what you're doing. how would i go about running the signal to the amp? when i go look at the car i think ill just take all the wireing from it.

 

The sub/amp plug will have 5 wires. Power, ground, amp turn-on, (+) audio, and (-) audio. The first three are self explanatory. For the audio, you'd have to take an rca from the sub preout of a head unit, run it to the amp, and splice the rca at the amp side so that it is wire you can strip, instead of an rca plug. Each individual rca plug has a positive and a negative inside it, so you'd only need one single rca to run from the head unit to the amp instead of both a red and a black.

You actually found something I haven't done on a maxima with this question. Congrats. lol

You should be fine just tapping into one of the speaker wires at the head unit and running it back to the amp's input. Although I've never done this on a factory head unit, I highly doubt it would screw up the ohm loads enough to mess with anything. You could tap the speaker wire at another location, but I figure you'd be tapping the remote turn-on at the head unit anyway.

 

i think the plug ports on the pathfinder deck are almost the same as the maxima. ill keep you posted.

You planning on doing some custom work to get that deck in there? Because it will plug right up, but Im not sure how you plan on fitting that into the dash.

 

it just looks off. it fits right in. had it for almost 7 mos now.

 

I think you linked a different radio than is in your dash. The radio you linked is from a QX4, and the right side of that QX4 radio is angled, looking like it wouldn't bolt right up in the dash at all. The '02 pathfinder head unit would be a standard double din and fit right in.
