tachometer intermittent

tachometer intermittent
i have a 97 max 5 speed se and the bulbs that light the tach up go out until i hit the dash. also the tach doesnt work until i hit it real hard. i checked the connections and their ok just wondering if this was one of those common problems that everyone knows how to fix quickly and easily
