Noob questions for installing a system

Hey all,
I'm thinking about putting my amp under my seat. If I take the seat out and mount the amp to the car, will I be drilling through the floorboards? How would I mount the amp to the floor under the car seat? Sorry but this is my first time putting in a system in a car. Thanks!

Unless you use some uber adhesive velcro, you will need to drill into the car. I have seen it done both ways w/o issue. Just make sure your amp can actually fit under the seat before permenantly mounting it.

No, not necessarily. Easiest method without drilling through the floorboard and being 100% secure would be to lift the carpet, lay a board under, lay the carpet back down and mount to the board. For added measure you can epoxy/caulk it to the floorboard. Caulk, like strip caulk can be removable and pliable.

I figure after THAT many years, you would have been more creative.

theoretically you could even do it with sheet metal and pop rivets to keep the thickness down. i love me some rivets.

Not if removing/flattening the jute below the carpet. Same height in the end.

That could flex more and resonate with vibration. Also PITA to align holes that you cant see with a rivet gun.

has anyone thought about the heat and it wont have anywhere to escape.. i don't know about you but my amp has fans on it to keep it cool and if it can't breath then it shuts off to keep it from over heating.. just something to think about..

It has been done for decades with no issues, no point in starting to worry now.

True, I still see amps being mounted under the seats. I'm just too lazy to run wires to the back on the trunk and back to the components.

Plus I have an old Alpine V12 amp. I don't think they have fans in them.

Add a low voltage quiet fan under the seat. Have it turn on with the remote wire with the amp. Just a thought. They are pretty cheap and from the ones I have seen are super quiet.

ok quick question.

I have a set of the rainbow components that I purchased here from Don a while ago. Do I need to add spacers to the front doors? and if so, what size/thickness do I need? thanks!

ok here's another question. Usually I take the integration adapter and solder the wires to the radio plug. This makes a better connection instead of twisting the wires and capping them. Its just me being paranoid. Anyway, if I'm hooking up an amp, should I still solder the wires that goto the front speakers? I've never really hooked up an amp to a car stereo before but it shouldn't be that hard.

No, if you're hooking up an amp, then the speaker leads are going to be coming from the amp, not the HU. It would be a waste of time.

And, depending where/how you leave your OEM speaker leads, if you do solder them to the HU, you could potentially short out your HU.

btw, I received these rings today but the speaker doesn't 'fall in'. Is it supposed to be flush when I put the speaker in?

Yes, you may have to shave those a bit.

Thanks man

Also, I'll try to get those rings shaved a bit so they will be flush.
