New system quoted @ $1800, need advice!!!

Okay so my '04 Max Bose system is barely reading cd's (common for these to go out on early 6 gens), and I'm actually okay with it- because now it's upgrade time!!!

Went to a very popular Audio place and was quoted $1,800 for:

-Pioneer D3 (or the new 7' it replaced) screen/ player
-New JL speakers
-JL Amp and JL 12' Sub

....I kinda was hoping to spend around $1,000 - $1,200 so this is obviously a bit more than i wanted to spend but I love listening to music and want very good quality............So please chime in and leave any suggestions it will greatly help me as I'm looking to do this int he next 2-3 weeks before another long semester in College...Yippy!

Thanks in Advance!!!!

by buying jl retail you are shooting yourself in the foot cost wise right off the jump. not to say that it's not a quality product, but you can get as good or better for less money. pioneer hu is meh. i second contacting don and see what he can do. not sure how close you guys are but he can install as well.

1800 is reasonable for that setup. Pioneer head unit alone is probably 1100+. Then you are running JL audio which is over priced. Not sure what model stuff they are giving you but the price looks ok. Like everyone says, Don not only has a good chance of competing with those prices but he can recommend better products that can save you a few and do better than JL. However, a 7" head unit alone will run 1000+ if purchased from any dealer/store so you may want to increase that price range.

Realistically, you are looking at the following break down.

Dvd/Navi - 1000-1400
Sub - 200-400
Sub Amp - 200-400
Speakers - 200+

Depends on how much you want to spend but that is an honest price range and that doesnt include an amp for the inside speakers (if you wanted to go that route.)

Thanks a lot meccanoble, and everyone else for the replys so far. It sucks this happened now, but we all know how car problems can come at the worst of times....

Filtor1- I was told it was going to be a mid-level JL 12' sub, wish i could tell you more.

I will get a hold of this famed Don and see what his take is, it's great to have the org in situations like this!!!

Cool, I would find out. For those prices I would expect a W6 atleast for the sub. Mid-level is too broad though.

I would definitely contact Don and see what he can do for you. I have been a customer of his for a few years and wouldn't hesitate in dealing with him.

+1

BTW, a D3 can be found online for cheaper but I thought retail stores all sell them in that price range. But I have always been in the Eclipse side so I could definitely be wrong.

Blah, get Eclipse over Pioneer and go with something (anything!) other than JL.

Do a search for IB. You can plug in nismos14 too as he has experimented heavily with IB setups.

it can be done much cheaper. just do the install yourself and buy from onlinecarstereo.com or a similiar place. audio installs honestly arn't hard. it's not like doing a clutch or anything.

oh and you could go IB or just grab a 15 in a sealed box. many can fit in a 1.5 cubed which is really rather small. certainly would take up much trunk space.

they're just "subs"...go ahead and take them out. if you want, you can replace the rear door speakers, but you won't be able to hear them from the front seat.
