Cheap Speakers :noes:
Cheap Speakers :noes:
Don't hurt me, oh audio gurus
I'm looking for some cheap speakers to replace my current rear ones (and possibly my front ones as well). The current rear ones are blown because shortly after getting a new headunit I added some sound deadening to the rear deck and cranked the volume a bit too much apparently (but not any higher than I did before the sound deadening
) and now at least one of them is slowly tearing (I can hear it with certain songs at higher volumes). I don't know the current model of speakers in the front or rear, as I bought the car with them installed, I just know the fronts are Jensen (shhhh) and the rears are Eclipse.
Now, let me define "cheap." I don't mean Wal-Mart special cheap or anything like that. I will not sacrifice quality for saving a few dollars. I do not, however, have a need for expensive speakers because I'm not a huge audiophile like most of you are. So I need something middle of the range. Preferably something that will produce a good bass, maybe? I'm attempting to avoid adding a lot of extra weight to the car for various reasons, so speaker upgrades and a wee bit of sound deadening are about as far as I really want to go. I may also want some new front speakers, but the rears need replaced first.
Hit me with your suggestions

You didn't specify how much you wanted to spend. I just put some polk momo 6.5"s in my car and they sound great to me. For lowerend, how about the Blaupunkt GTX652's?
My gf is the same way in her Altima, the speakers were blown but she can hardly tell the difference between aftermarket speakers, etc.. I put a set of 4 in her car for under 100 bux and they sound ok, with decent "bass"

The ones I have now are OK, nothing great obviously. They fit my purposes. In fact if I could get direct replacements I'd be ok with it probably, but I figured if I am spending the money for new ones I should just pick something up to help improve if at all possible.
EDIT: If I get half-way decent 6.5" speakers that have tweeters and what not, would I be better off moving my current front speakers to the back and putting the good ones up front?

I was kind of hoping not to spend that much if I didn't have to in order to meet my needs. Given the quality (or lack thereof) of my current front speakers, putting nice(r) speakers in the rear doesn't make much sense anyway.
then... get a set of those rainbows and move them to the front. Your are much better off with better speakers in the front anyway.
don't know if this fits within your budget but some of my friends have them and they sound ok.

Pioneer TS-G1642R 6.5-Inch 2-Way 180-Watt Speaker

Id suggest against the pioneers, they're just crap build quality, and don't sound wonderful, at all.
Cheap but decent enough speakers, and I usually don't recommend these brands, but given your current situation, they will work fine: stick with reasonably priced main stream stuff and you'll probably be satisfied. I'm sure the average JL/Alpine/MBQ/Boston coax will suit you just fine. If you're feeling adventurous, PM
Pearl96Max and see what he has lying around.

I have a set of DLS Classic 226 (now called PERFORMANCE) that I could sell to you for $50 shipped.

I used them in my rear speakers in my 5.5 gen and they were powered off the headunit. They really didn't get much use.

what it your price range?
what are you powering them with?
just disconnect the rears. they ruin your sound stage and pull it back generally. problem solved. then sell all the speakers and buy some nice fronts and an amp and a lil deadening and bamn you're done. small money. nice sound.
or just to fix your rear problem buy the DSLSs.
