Double DIN E-Brake issue

i just purchased a BOSS Double Din dvd touchscreen with all that jazz and it has a cable that is supposed to hook up to the E-brake wire which makes it impossible to watch dvd's while the e-brake is down. i read up on it and found something that mentioned that if you ground that wire that it will be able to play anything anytime, which is what i am looking for. i was wondering if anyone here knows if this works or is true. i drive people arond alot and im sure they would want to watch movies while i am driving. thanks for your help in advance!

Yep, just ground it with your other ground wires when you hook up the harness.

You will need a switch though to trick the unit into think you lifted the brake. PM me your email address and I can send you detailed instructions on how to.

I've installed 3 different in-dash dvd players (all different brands) and just grounded the wire and it worked, no toggle switch needed.
I would just test it without in and see if it works.

Agreed, I think it's just Pioneer and MAYBE Alpine that does the funky stuff with the switch.

But a basic BOSS HU, most likely will just need a ground.

The units these guys are talking about look for a "ground..... ungrounded..... ground" signal. Hence the toggle switch. You can flip the switch to ground the wire. Flip it back to unground it. Then flip it back again so it can rest at ground.

Most any cheaper unit, such as the Boss, can usually just see ground one time to bypass. However, some (such as Phase Linear) have a code you can type in with the remote to bypass.

What can I say. Try wiring it to ground. If it doesn't work try playing the DVD, touching the wire to ground for 2 seconds, removing it for two seconds, and then touch and hold it to ground. If the video pops up, you need the toggle switch.

Google.

something is wrong. i had it hooked up by a professional company that is known for their audio work bc i havent had time recently to do it, and i asked them to ground the e-brake wire and they did. everything worked fine until i put a dvd in, i could hear the sounds of the movie just wasnt able to see the movie playing.... i dont know why. is this a typical problem? any insight? suggestions? is it because of it being grounded and not hooked up to a switch?

That is exactly what it's designed to do when the e-brake is not engaged. Either your installers did not do as you asked, or your particular unit requires the switch. Do some work for yourself. Do as I said in my previous post and find out what's really going on.

You SURE the parking brake wire is grounded? From searching, it says it's the pink wire.

If it is properly grounded, but a switch on it to see what happens.

it had a label on the wire to show it was the e-brake wire. ill have the people check it out and ask them to hook it up to the switch. How exactly would a switch work? would i have to toggle it once before switching it? or just switch it once to turn it on and it will always work?

Yes, flip it up and down when you put a dvd in and the display should appear. I sent you the info give it to your installer and purchase the switch on your own though not all shops carry them.
