Couple of q's regarding Eclipse's backup cameras and Nav software....

Sup fellas,

Backup camera

Does anyone know the difference between the the BEC106 and the new BEC108? I know the BEC106 was released back in 2006 and the 108 is the new model, but Crutchfield's website doesn't say much and the tech didn't know squat.

New model compatible with the 6620 I assume??

Any good sources to purchase besides ebay??

Navigation software
The 6620 I have came with street Nav maps from the year 2006. When I purchase a new 6620 model within the next few days, will the software still be from 2006? Again, the Tech at Crutchfield couldn't answer this question, or any of my tech questions in fact. LOL

I trust the new 726 model has 2009 street maps? Is the 726's nav software compatible with the 6620's??

Will a burned DVD copy work in the Eclipse 6620? I ain't paying no $329 for new 2009 maps per Crutchfield.....

What alternatives do I have??

According to this ebay listing, newer software won't work??

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

James

If you search around you can find people to have copied dvd's. It is not legal but it does work

You can use the 106 for the cam, it should be cheaper now that the new one came out.

The software that comes with 6620s is 2008 maps. However date codes are usually a bit behind due to the length of time creating them. If your reading an actual date in the small print on the disc, then it would be misleading. Map disc for '08 is MDV-78D Ver.3.1 'Database' is always dated a year or so behind.

726E is SD maps, so no it would not work for former models.

Yes it will read burnt copies and many have went this route when losing, breaking, etc their current discs.

Dont know the difference between the 108 and 106 since I stopped paying attention, but the 106 will work with 726e and should be backwards compatible.

I had that exact same question about the backup camera... When I called Eclipse a couple weeks ago and asked if the 106 was compatible with the new 726E I was told No it wasn't. So I was going to sell my 6620 and keep the backup Camera (106) and then found out it wasn't compatible and had to get the new 108 it kind of steered me away from upgrading along with the fact that I was paying an extra 700 bucks just to be able to play ipod movies... which is why I really wanted to upgrade. I figured I'll keep my 6620 and spend the money on some other goodies, besides mine isn't even a year old yet.

Then no surprise ... they either failed at knowledge of their own product or are hoping to blind side someone into buying a new camera. Either way, in my eyes .. fail.

I can take ya right down the street to one of my dealers who has .. 726E and 106 camera.

Yeah true... you would assume because they work at Eclipse they would have the correct answer. Very Misleading some people can be. Crutchfield said they didn't know if the 106 would work with the 726E. So there you have it people.
