Flush mounting a double din in a 4th gen
Flush mounting a double din in a 4th gen
Hi everyone.... I finally got my setup installed and I am very pleased with it. Now I need to do some tuning and tweaking. Also figuring out bluetooth.
Except I am sorta ****.... and not really pleased with the way the new head unit is "poking" out of the dash.
Has anyone installed their new headunit flush in a 4th gen? DO you have any pictures/advice?
Thanks. I will try for pictures of my setup later this week.

All depends on the mounting screws on the HU and how they line up with the bracket. Depending on the HU, you may have a couple different sets of holes for mounting. But many times, it protrudes so the face can flip down and not get caught on anything.
Worst case scenario, you just drill some new mounting holes in the factory bracket.

Yeah, I've done it. It stuck out too far and drove me nuts too!
I took the brackets out of the car, beat the raised "bubbles" where the screws go in to be completely flat with a hammer, then drilled new holes about 3/16th more back. I have pics somewhere..if I can find them.
Here are some extremely old pics I have on my PB account.

Ok, Ive read up on here somewhere about what you did. I love the idea of the "security face". I have the same HU and was wondering... How does it stay in place when you put it on? And what did you use to keep all the buttons and ***** in place on the backside?
If I remember correctly he used a popsicle stick to hold the fake face in place. And jb weld for the buttons. I could be wrong though.
Thanks wizard... thats exactly what I was looking for.

FWIW, 99 is the best year to use, since it's three dimensional so to speak and sticks off the center console a little, unlike the 98 and earlier generation Bose units which sit flush with the center console.
You're welcome.
Gonna tackle it?
