Recommended Budget setup

Hi, i have a 97 max which currently has 4 polk speakers (think 150 watt peak) and stock tweeters as well as a 52x4 sony head unit.

Currently, the sound is good until the volume exceeds about 50%.

What do you kind of amp\ tweeters would be recommended. If possible would like to spend less than $250

I was thinking something along lines of 4 channel 40w each and 2 channel 50 watt each but am audio noob so suggestions appreciated

Hello Haydeno. When you say you reach 50% of your volume level and the sound starts to go south, what you are suffering from is improper amplification for your speakers. Does the sound start to distort when you push it or does your sound seem to be too strong for your speakers?

I doubt you are overpowering your speakers and I am willing to bet that your ohm ratings on your amp and speakers don't match. Are you aware if your speakers and amps match ohm wise?

Also what what is the RMS rating on your Polk's?

Well this is a month old so I hope you have a solution in place but maybe someone else will see this. I also have a sony 52x4 head unit and replaced the factory door speakers with the GTX sony 6.5 component speaker set. search on Ebay for xplod 6.5 and the component set is what you want for the front doors. Should cost less than $50, retail they are $150.

The tweeter fits fine in the factory location and so do the 6.5's. I was able to put the crossover also in the factory box beside the 6.5 although it took a little modification . One day I'll make my own thread and share pics from my whole install.

Even on an extreme budget, literally, not enough money to buy food, I still wouldn't buy Sony Xblows anything.
