Wiring Subs to Amp

I can hookup my whole system, including headunit, speakers, amp, ect...but I still can nvere figure out ohms and wiring up subs to an amp correctly. Well I have a Rockford Fosgate 800.2 which can bee hooked up most efficiently the following ways:
1) Bridged Mono with a 4ohm load
2) 2 channel with a 2 ohm load

I am picking up my 4 ohms Audiobahn subs tomorrow...How should I wire them up one of the above ways?

thanks,
PJ

Are they single or dual voice coil? If single you can't hook it up efficently, if dual you can.

The only way you can safely hook those two 4-ohm subs up is 4-ohm stereo. You should get 2 8-ohm subs.

Or two two ohm single voice coil subs. Or two dual 4 ohm voice coil subs. Or sell/return one of the subs.

damnit I found out it can't be done...

I thought the RF was stable at 2 ohms mono...I was blown when I found out it wasn't. Its still pretty damn loud! but I want 800RMS that my subs can handle so i'm gonna return the amp. Anyone know a good amp thats about 800RMS (maybe a little more) and runs full potential at 2ohm Mono or 4 ohm stereo?

thanks,
PJ

The MMATS D-300 H.C. is a popular amp. It's Class D, which would be better on your car's charging system than the Punch 800. It is rated at 1200 watts @ 2 ohms, and I think I remember seeing a bench test that showed it actually puts out 1600-1700 watts @ 2 ohms. That should do it.

lol that sounds like a CRUCIAL amp...

but I only need 800RMS, thats just a TAD overdoing it...thanks anways tho. I am looking at maybe changing it for a Rockford 1000.1 which is stable a 2ohms mono. So I could run the subs in parallel to get them down to 2 ohms right?

the guy at Excessive audio said to run the 800.2 at 2 ohms even tho thats below its stable point, i'm not tyring to blow my amp tho, rather trade it for one that'll work better for my application, i think the 1000.1 sounds good, any comments?

Audiobahn subs, hit VERY deep...sound very nice to me, even at half their power...espeically for the price. Slso the box is beautilful! I'll post pics once I get it all installed nice tomorrow.

Yeah, that will work. Is that amp Class D? I would want a Class D amp for that much power.

yea, it's class D

Nobody sells them for a really good price on ebay though..I got my 800.2 for $320 w/shipping and was thinking I could get the 1000.1 for like $350 maybe, I only saw it for $425+ship...hmm, I don't know what I am going to do yet, but I can't take back the subs because they were special order.

Is Rockford Fosgate the only brand of amp that you're interested in?

Try the MTX 500D, or current equivalent. It should put out about 700-900 at 2 ohms.

Yeah, I was gonna suggest MTX next. MTX amps can put out some serious power for not a lot of money, compared to many other amps.
