series 4, always fails on left side speakers?

Both my series IVs have the same problem so I imagine that it's common to this series. The left hand speakers go dead, but if I turn the volume to maximum they come on again, until that is, I go over another bump, then they die again.
Has anyone found the cause for this? Where is the bad connection? Inside the Bose or in the harness or in the amp?
