5.5 Gen 2002 Maxima SE XK05 vs. PKN2 with Viper 5901
Sorry for the newbie question but I am planning to add remote start/alarm to my 5.5 gen (2002) Maxima SE in with Viper 5901. Could somone let me know the difference between XK05 and PKN2? Perhaps PKN2 is mainly for Nissan cars and XK05 is more "universal'?
I don't want to sacrifice one of my keys so I would prefer to bypass the transponder.
Thanks.
Also, if somone had experience installing Viper 5901, let me know how it took to do the job. I've experience installing RS for my 1994 Camry before without transponder bypass so I was able to located necessary wire by color code, test light, etc. So now I am attempting for my 5.5 gen...

Process will be the same as in your camry, except for a few extra wires for the bypass. Main benefit of the XK05 over the PKN2 is that it will work with push to start nissan/infiniti. You will be fine with either. Let me know if you have any other questions, I'm a Directed dealer and do remote starts for a living

PKN2 is for Nissan only. XK05 is for an abundant amount of others, but will have to be flashed to PKN2 3.0 If your not capable of flashing, then stick with the PKN2. I have always stuck with the XK05s and they have never failed me. XK05s offer D2D and PKN2 does not, makes the install a bit quicker for prep time and easier for wiring.

1. door locks/unlocks - any need to add resistors/diodes to get the double pulse?
2. the Viper 5901 manual says to wire the NSS input wire to Ground. What is recommendation for 5.5 gen max? Wire NSS input to ground or to Pin 44 at the ECU?

1. no resistors or anything for our nissans, the double pulse is all in the programming process.
2. If you have a manual, wire the NSS wire to the NSS at the ecu. If you have an auto, just ground it. This is to prevent accidental starting in gear (for a manual)
