need help with sub box..

Hey guys, this is the first time im posting in this area. i was curious if you could guide me in the right direction.
My setup consists of:
CDA 9855
Front speakers- infinity kappa components amped
rear- mb quart components amped a
subs 2x 12 rockford fosgate subs 150rms 300max( they are fairly old) in a sealed box
I think it is 1.5cu. ft inside each speaker area.
My subs are amped by a profile california 600 that i have bridged.
The setup now i love. has all the crsip clear highs, deep deep lows.
My only thing is i want to reduce the weight in the back and the subs and box weigh 75lbs. I disconnected one sub to see how it sounds and obviously not as loud it still has good bass.

So hear is my questions, if i go with a single 12' box what should i get a sealed or ported.
Will there be a significant loss of weight. cant find weights for boxes on crutchfield or bestbuy.
Replacing the subs is not an option as i only have the extra money for the box.
Also my music is broad. Country, top 40, oldies, classic rock, techno..so i dont have just one brand i listen too.
Thanks all for your help

If you MUST keep those RF subs, I would get a ported box.

As far as weight goes, 75lbs is not very heavy for two 12's. Im about 75lbs with two JL 8w7's in a 2cf^ box, my subs alone are 34lbs. http://forums.maxima.org/audio-elect...ure-build.html

Im not sure your gonna be happy thou, your not gonna get the heavy bass that those two subs where providing with one.

When doing a single sub setup you need a QUALITY sub that can take beating, b/c you will beat on it. Theres a nice 12' TC sounds sub in the for sale section that would put both those RF subs to shame on its worst day, I would look into if I were you, but even that sub & box will be in the 60/70lbs range.

A properly ported box will give you more bass output than sealed and still produce good sound quality. If you just do one of the 12's in a single ported enclosure, you're looking at a lot more bass than you heard from the single 12" in that dual sealed box.
If I were you, I would simply check the specs, and build a spec box, but out of 1/2" MDF, the sub isnt pushing that much power so 1/2" should be fine and save you some good weight bringing you in closer to the 40lb range.

i would brace the panels with some wooden dowels if you're going the 1/2" MDF route. double baffle the front for the sub.

you can just use some 3/4 birch ply to save some weight. the downside is that birch is almost double the cost of MDF.
