Custom Enclosure for JL 8W7 - 2009 Max
Hey everyone,
I've been going back and forth with Mike at AMI Creations for the past couple weeks coming up with a design for my 8W7 enclosure. As ButtaMax has stated in his post a little while ago, this guy's work is insane. It is incredibly precise and he comes up with beautiful designs. My box is birch with a custom front baffle and will be finished in black carpet with gray suede insets.
Here's the design he sent me:
The whole build process can be monitored here.
You can also email him to get quotes for your own project. Pricing is very reasonable, especially considering the product you receive.

Thanks guys,
Mine was $275, which includes birch, suede, and custom-fit custom-cutout baffle. Considering the local audio shop around here wanted a base price of 300 before any upgrades, I'd say this was a very good deal. Add to that Mike's superior craftsmanship and attention to detail and it's a no-brainer. He actually went back and forth to his local Nissan dealer for measurements and test fits.

Once again THANK YOU for referring me to Mike... The end product is far nicer than I could have imagined... It's like he read my mind and made exactly what I wanted - All I told him was be creative and make the inset grey suede... Amazing.

Thanks man, I am more than impressed with the results. We went through a couple design iterations before ending up with this side port design. I CAN'T WAIT to get it on Tuesday... I have a feeling this box is really gonna take it to the next level.

Here it is in all it's glory:
The black carpet actually matches the floor fairly well, it looks way off in the pics.
This thing sounds nasty! It is 10,000 times better - cleaner, punchier, more 'alive', and wayyyy louder. You would NEVER think it was a little baby back there.
Only thing I need to work out is where to put the amp. Right now its on the back of the box, literally sandwiched between the seat and the box. there is just enough clearance to fit it. I am going to check for heat buildup and see if it starts getting hot, but from what I've seen so far, these amps barely get warm, nevermind hot. Any thoughts?

That looks good!!!!
I would leave that amp behind the box, remember its not working that hard on a single 8. Also, just being **** I would adjust the speaker ring opening to 6oclock, just below the W7 logo.
8's FTmf'ingW again!!!!!!!!
I'm loving the speaker grills too, I wanted them but they wouldn't work with my design!

I wanted the gap in the locking ring to be on the bottom too, but in order to get it on i had to "side slip" it around the sub... there simply wasn't enough room to just pop it on.... for now it works, once I get some motivation I may try to slip it around. Something tells me that sub is staying exactly where it is unless it blows out lol.

I actually havn't yet, I wanted to make sure the amp was good where it was first. I still need to screw down my ReQ and re-route some wires too. After that I will try industrial strength male velcro stapled to the bottom. If that isnt enough or if the carpet itself starts to slip then I will have to get some metal strapping and bolt it to the floor (on the non-sport/prem SV there are 4 threaded holes in the floor... one was perfect to use as a ground, the others could be used for what I just described)
