Alpine Type R
Alright, instead of buying a Kappa Perfect, I'm going to get 1 12 Alpine Type R. It's the dual voice coil,4 ohms. I was looking at a JBL 600.1 amp, which pushes out 300 watts at 4 ohms. The subs are rated at either 300 or 350, RMS. Anyways, would this amp be a good match for this sub? I can get the amp for 190 and the sub for 119.

dual 4 ohms?
im pretty sure if u have a dual 4ohm (4ohm+4ohm) dvc sub then u cant have a final 4 ohm load. I have a idq 12 dvc and i have to wire my pg xs2500 rated at 500watts X1 bridged mono at 8 ohms. You can either wire it at 8 ohms or 2 ohms final...check jlaudio tutorials out. Hope this will help if you didnt know, dont want anyone to make the same mistakes i did

I asked a question on the sounddomain.com board a couple of days ago, and here is what I got:
"If you can get a dual 4 ohm DVC, I'd get the 600.1 and wire the sub in series for the 4 ohm load (300W). The BP amps are getting so cheap, you might as well buy the the 600.1 and enjoy the head room."
Does this make any sense? So if I got the sub wired in "series" then I could use this amp at 4 ohms for the 300 watts?

you got any suggestions for amps? I've been reading some stuff, and according to my reading, I will need to wire the DVC so that I will either get a 2 or 8 ohm load.(2KBlackMax) So, does that mean that I should find an amp that is about 300 watts bridged which is at 2 ohms? Also, how would I wire the sub, parallel or series? I think that I'll just end up taking it to a shop and getting them to do it so I dont' screw up. I'm going to talk to some shops tomorrow to try and get a better understanding of this stuff.

If you're only getting one DVC Type-R sub I would suggest wiring it in parallel so that it's 2 ohm stable. If you get the JBL amp which is 600 watts x 1 at 2 ohms it will slam that sub.
Keep in mind the Type-R is a 1000 watt sub

so the 600.1 would work with the Type R, or should I go with the 300.1? I don't want to have to worry about blowing the sub because I'm buying it off ebay and I think that the manufacturer's warranty just covers defects. If the RMS rating is 300 watts, wouldn't I wanna stay around there? I would really prefer to get the 300.1 because it is cheaper, but I would get the 600.1 if the 300 wasn't able to push it enough.

The bench tests I've seen show them to be underrated. Get the dual 4-ohm VC version, parallel the voice coils for a 2-ohm load, and get the 300.1 to power it. That will get you over 300 watts for less money than the 600.1.
