5th Gen Factory Bose Sub replacement question

I just got my '03 Maxima and turned on the Bose system, bass all the way to 5 and... Where is the bass? I think my 4th gen had more.

I searched but couldn't find anything specific.

Could the people that have replaced the factory bose sub with an 8" aftermarket one (in the stock location) let me know which sub/amp combo they choose and if there was much sound improvement.

I know that putting sound damping on the rear deck around the sub will help and I'm planning on doing that. I also understand that I will not be able to get the same amount of bass from a free air sub as a closed one but I'm not looking for much, just something better than stock.

Thanks

Here is an old thread i started a while back but there are plenty of options on what you can put back there you just have to look around. I ended up going with just a single Free air 12 back there and it suits all my needs perfectly
