DB series? They are good, but you can find better for the money.
Don't get me wrong, you will enjoy the purchase, there's just better out there.

The PPI 356 comp set is a very nice set. Was blown out for like 130 a few months ago, but you can still find a brand new set on ebay or the audio forums for 150-200.

MSRP of 500 bucks, KILLER speakers. I have the 5.25 version in my Altima, freaking rock.

Also, if you're a diy'er, the Dayton Ref mids and tweets from partsexpress are killer.
I heard a Dayton ref setup yesterday in a Mazda 6.
They guy was jamming on it, I told him how loud and clear the bass was.
His response was" Oh, you want me to turn the subs on?" I was astounded.

He was feeding the Dayton RS180's 200 rms per side, xo'd at 63hz 12db slope HP, 315 hz 24db slope LP. Top end was handled by a Dayton RS100 mid 315hz HP unsure of slope, no LP set. Tweets were not installed yet. Even so, phenomenal sound for a pair of 35 dollar drivers and 25 dollar mids.
XO was handled by an Alpine 9887.

What are you looking to get out of replacement speakers? Just a factory replacement? Or are you looking to majorly upgrade your sound?

Post what you're looking for, and I can give better recommendations.

May be another issue, not the speakers.

How much power/what amp are you using, if any?

Are your doors sealed/deadened or just factory?

Makes a HUGE difference.

In my other car, an 01 Grand Am, with stock doors I had no bass at all, and the speakers would bottom out with minimal effort.

So what I did was coat the outer door skin with 4-5 layers of liquid deadening (edead v3). I also took 2 layers of aluminun flashing, affixed to one another via RTV, and cut to size to cover all of the holes in the door. Covered that with another few layers of liquid deadening.
Made a HUGE difference in midbass response, not to mention as the door was not as leaky, they didn't bottom as easily. And this is the POS way of doing it.

Something to consider.

the only wattage going in is what the deck puts out which is 52watts

and what does that do? less vibration and more direct sound? and would dynomatt work just the same?

Yep. Dynomat would be good.
Yes, less vibration and more direct sound, but it also seals the front wave off from the back wave of a speaker. Eliminating cancellation. As best as you can in a car door, anyway.

Think about it this way. Hold a speaker in your hand, sounds like ***.

Put it in a box, sounds 10 times better. Same principle, except for the fact that the car door is much larger, effectively making it infinite baffle.

The goes would be to reduce vibrations and resonance as much as possible, while sealing off the front/rear of the speaker from one another as much as possible.

As far as power, 52 watts is max. More like 20-25 RMS. Which would be at full tilt on the head unit, pushed way into clipping. At listening levels, much likely much less.

With that little power, pretty much any speakers will be woefully underpowered.

Not to say that you can't get good sound from them. But with that little power the install is crucial.

If you're not looking to add an amp or anything, I would get the cheapest quality speakers you can. You can get a good Phoenix Gold RSD comp set from amazon for 40 bucks when on sale. Great performers for the money.

Haha. Just reread what I wrote. When I said "cheapest quality" I didn't mean get crappy speakers.
I meant get the highest quality you can at the cheapest price possible.

Sorry. Just wanted to clarify.

For the price point the db series is nice. I used to install them all the time and they have very nice output. You will want to amp them to get the best sound.

For the money you could get some nice focals, for me the polk's tweeters tend to be a little to bright for my liking. Then again as said before it all depends on the speaker installation. Amazing speakers can sound like poop if you install them the wrong way.

Depends on models. The Pio PRS720's are kick-butt. But out of price range.

If you look, you can get some hertz hi energy 165's for about your price range.

Killer comp set. Youtube has tons of vids of them. Yes, Hertz may not be well known.
But just because something is popular doesn't mean it's better. In most cases, it's exactly the opposite.

I'll say it again, look at some Dayton RS180's and Dayton RS tweets. Out the door for about 100 bucks shipped. For the price, there's nothing better.

I just put the polk mm6501 components into my front doors and i think they sound pretty good. I got em half price on ebay. I've still yet to put dynamat in but with the subs in the back my system sounds pretty good.
