2 10" JL Audio W3s...JL 250/1 Amp or JL 500/1 Amp?

Hey guys,

I've had my box sitting in my room for like 2 months now. I really got to get this stereo done so I can get it out of my bedroom. I'm looking into a JL Audio 250/1 Amp or a JL Audio 500/1 Amp. Which one do you think will be better suited to power my 2 10" JL Audio W3 subwoofers?

Everything else is decided on...I just need to decide on which amp for the subwoofers and then go buy it all. Any suggestions/help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
-Nick

Will the 500/1 deliver 500 watts at 1.5 ohms? If so then that's what you want. Or at least what I would want. 250 watts per speaker.

JL 500/1 would be best. Each voice coil requires 125 watts each. 125 X 4 voice coils = 500 watts. If you are going to run just 1 JL 10W3 then go with the 250/1

The 500/1 was benchtested at 551 watts continuous at any ohm load (1.5-4 or 8; I can't remember), so each sub would get 275 watts. That is way more than enough for normal listening.

Great guys! I think I'm gonna go with the 500/1. Someone in the past told me that the 250/1 would be more than enough but they must've thought I was only using 1 W3 sub.

Anyways...I know have my whole system planned out! I think I'm gonna wait until after the holidays to get the stuff. Hopefully I'll get a nice sum of money for Christmas and my birthday...which both fall on the same day!

Thanks for your help!

Sorry, I was thinkin' W6. 6/4 = 1.5
W3 has three options for the voice coil impedance.

I just bought 3 10w3s (not yet taken delievry) but since they offer 3 impedance which one should I get. I will have the 500/1 powering it.

If you get dual 2 ohm you could run three coils in series, another three in series and then parallel those two sets for a net 3 ohms. If you get dual 4 ohm you could run each sub in series and parallel the three subs for net 2.7 ohms. If you get dual 6 ohm you could run each sub in series and then parallel the three for a net 4 ohms.

which one of these would be the best in sound quality and loudness. is there even much difference between these 3 setup?? I understand that by getting lower in ohms you give up quality is that correct>?

the 250/1 would push them put to get full potential i would go with the 500/1 it will sound great i know a guy that has that setup in his cls and it pounds harder than your probably expecting

With the variable impedance power output of the new JL amps it shouldn't make much difference which one you select. And the difference in damping factor between 2.7 ohms and 4 ohms would only be detectable by someone with a really finnicky ear. The average person wouldn't be able to tell. If you were using another amp there would be a good difference in power output, but not with these amps.
