Does the brand name/quality of LOC make a difference?

Does the brand name/quality of LOC make a difference?
I want to buy one asap but there are so many brands, types, etc. I am clueless as to what I NEED, without wasting money on unnecessary junk. What does a good LOC need to have on it? I have read alot of the posts but haven't found anything pertaining to which gives most bang for the buck. I know walmart and radio shack both sell cheap ones, are they any good though? Thanx in advance fellas.
*I just read that an amp with speaker level inputs will replace the need for an LOC, is that true?

An amp with speaker level inputs does replace the need for LOC, however you may find the need to get one anyway, so don't depend on the amp to fullfill that requirement...I needed one in the 07 I drive to get the Bose sub speaker level up. Just hooking it directly to the JL Audio amp with speaker level inputs wasn't enough, even with the input sensitivity level turned all the way up.
That said, I would think any of them are relatively adequate, just make sure you can adjust the output on the LOC...

so like a gain adjustment right? What do you think of this one, too much or just enough? http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Scosche+...=1218106684939 I found it alot cheaper on ebay of course.

I actually went to best buy and got one that was discontinued, was usually $25+, got it for $6 at the installation center. They didn't have any more, I got the last one. They had used both that one, and the newer one, which I'm pretty sure is the one you're looking at, and said they didn't see any difference. That said, that one looks good. Anything around the $20-$30 range is going to give you everything you need....

Thanx for all the input fellas, I know which one to buy now. Now only question remaining is, am I supposed to splice into 1 of the rear speaker wires (T into it), or cut the speaker wire and re-route it through the LOC now?

That depends on what you're doing. If you plan on using the existing system, and just want to add some bass, T into it should be just fine. There may be minor attenuation at the speaker, but hardly noticeable...
Now, if you're running a new amp to the speaker you're splicing from then you obviously need to disconnect from that speaker first...

I got the scosche today and the manual says to splice into all four speakers, is that necessary or will just one speaker be sufficient? Ill post a pic of the diagram from the manual in a bit.
*Sorry for the huge pic I sent this from my phone and I can't edit it down :/
