VSS wire: to the speedo, or from the speedo for OEM navi?

I have installed the OEM navi on my I30 and tapped into the VSS wire going to the speedo. When reading the FSM, I notice there is a VSS wire going to the speedo and a VSS wire from the speedo that would feed the navi (and other components) if I had it from the factory.

The reason for the post is b/c the vehicle indicator on the map travels faster than the vehicle. I have calibrated the system and it has not fixed it. I am wondering if the signal going to the speedo is faster or stronger than the signal from the speedo which may be regulated by the speedo. I cant seem to include a picture of the relevant FSM page, but does anyone know?

Thanks in advance

Please keep in mind that most new cars VSS siganl from the cluster to the ECU is a data/CAN signal now. This is for a few reasons. The #1 reason I can think of is to stop people from altering the ODometer with that wire.

Sometimes you can catch the VSS at airbag modules, but you need to be sure of which wire it is.Or try the cruise control mudule under the dash?

It's a 2001 Infiniti I30. I was at Englishtown a couple of months ago watching my nephew do motorcross. I don't get over there as much as I'd like. Thanks again.

Use the pink/blue in the brown harness behind the cluster. This is the VSS wire that works with navi units.

Old Bridge?! I'm in East Brunswick! Hit me up some time.

Thanks, djfrestyl. I have an I30, so I think the wire is a different color than on the Maxima. On the I30 the FSM shows a purple/red wire from the speedo harness (which is white on the I30 not grey like the Max), but I think this is the same wire you are recommending. From more searching here, it seems like the wire I tapped into is sending raw VSS data to the navi and this could be the cause of the vehicle indicator moving faster than the car.

I'll hit you up some time. My neighbor owes me a favor and said he will install my front H&Rs, but we havent been able to choose a time. If he falls thru, I plan on contacting you. Thanks again.

He is right.its pink/blue in a 20pin brown connector behind cluster.also.if you simply cut that wire and attach a tiny toggle switch to those ends youcan shut your odometer off to keep your miles low.but that would be dishonest.ha ha.if you do it make sure you attach your vss wire you needed to the car side of that pink/blue wire so that device will measure the speed while the odometer is off.
