Radio/Head Unit does not work. Any Tips?

i have a 2004 maxima se manual. MY head unit where the radio controls and settings buttons for maintnance and fuel econ do not work. the steering control to turn on my radio also does not work. the buttons do not even light up. i checked the fuses and they are fine. i really have no idea. i kinda thought maybe someone who had it before had a aftermarket radio and forgot to plug something back in. i tried the nissan dealer but they want to charge 90$ an hour for labor so im doing what i can first before i do that. any ideas?

You also checked the fuses under the hood? Has the HU ever worked since you bought the car?

Where are you located?

Find a local member willing to help you out?

Or, search the forum for a how-to on removing the radio. The 6th gen isn't too difficult.

No problem - good luck.

You still never answered where you're located. If you're somewhat local to NJ I can help you out.

Don't know if the wiring is similar to a 2003, but...I had two harnesses, one with power & front speakers, and a second with what are most likely the controls and rear speakers. If that harness weren't plugged in, I believe you would also experience no rear speaker sounds. If you look up a guide for aftermarket install, you can get back there and inspect the wiring. Please remember to remove negative battery cable.

All of those wires should be in the secondary plug in the radio and it sounds like it came loose or was not plugged in when they did the back to factory. Also nissan likes to ground the radios separately with a big long ground strap or long black wire a lot of times this isnt properly grounded or even done at all. The radio fact radio will work because because its grounding threw the antenna but the other controls use that ground. Before you take it to a dealer if you feel comfortable taking it apart your self heres step by step instructions.....
