Vented or Sealed for components

Ok this isn't maxima related but this forum always had some of the smartest audio people on it. So I'm building some speaker pods for my boat with some Alpine Type S 6.5 components. What would be better a sealed or vented speaker enclosure? I'd prefer sealed just to keep dirt and insects out but don't know if it matters to components since all the factory locations are free air holes.

I would just try porting them and use some sort of screen to cover the ports to keep bugs out. Sealed would be the easiest to build. Honestly I don't think you'll hear a difference between the two enclosures when you're on the water anyways.

1. It is going to be hard to get ANY bass from a Type-S 6.5", so I don't know why you'd port it.
2. It can be tricky to get good bass from ported enclosures on boats (talking about subs, not 6.5" full range drivers)

Yeah not trying to have anything crazy just some tunes while cruisin over the lake. It's just a 17 foot bass boat so there's not alot of room for anything I just wanted to make sure a sealed enclosure wouldn't hurt anything since usually cars are just open on the other side. I might add a sub at sometime if it needs some extra but I got an Alpine head unit and speakers for such a good price I couldn't turn it down.

Look into JL audio speaker pods for boats, While I was in Houston at an audio shop, they had installed 4 of them on a boat and boy did they sound LOUD. I know you may not want to spend that much but, might wanna look into it and see if you can find some on CL or ebay

I don't think those fit on bass boats.

OP, you should get some marine rated speakers at least. Alpine and JL make some nice ones. You're not going to get a boat to sound good without spending ridiculous amounts of money. If you just want some tunes go with what's priced right. They all sound about equal in the entry levels IMO.
