4th gen remote starter info?

Looking for any info anyone with experience can give me on remote starter installs on a 97 in particular in my case. I'm wondering if I should get it or not.

Pros... obvious.

Cons? Any issues caused after install with any other electronics, or engine wise, alarm wise, etc?

Just looking for some facts if its worth doing / if it will possibly cause any issues, etc.

Thanks

If you know what you're doing and its installed properly, it won't affect anything negatively in the car at all. The factory alarm can be disarmed with a neg pulse to a specific wire. If you're going to attempt it yourself there are schems at the top of this main electronics forum section for your car.

worth doing? since you're at a location where it gets cold, I'd say absolutely. If you can afford it, find someone local to put it in for you.

I did my first alarm ever install in my 95 and it was remote start. I had some experience in basic audio installs but never alarms. Mind you I learned on my own and only did installs at home for friends. I personally didn't think it was hard at all as long as you do your homework. I soldered all my work and it took me a good 8-9 hrs to do on my own.

There is alot of info out there that can help you do it on your own if you really wanted to learn or trying to save a few bucks...which was my goal back when I was in school. That being said I'd likely resort to pay someone to do an alarm install now just to make sure it's done right on my new vehicle.
