7-inch mid-woofer in 5th gen

I have a 2K1 with Bose. I've heard that most 6.5" speakers are a little small for a perfect fit in the doors. Crutchfield even reccommends a 6.75". Has anyone tried mounting a 7" mid-woofer in the front doors? Such as a Dynaudio? I don't want to do any cutting into the metal of the door for ease of putting the stock speakers back there when I sell the car.

no can't do. i have 6.5 in the front and rear, and when some idiot riding in my car rolls the window down all the way i can hear it rub against the after market speaker...you might have to drill new holes to mount the speaker, but if the magnet is 2 big it wont fit, or will rub against the glass

You should be able to fit it in there with a custom MDF mounting baffle. In the 4th gen, you can even stick an 8" in the doors.

Victor, the mounting depth for my Focal 165HCs are 2.75 inches. Of course, I'm using the stock Bose baffles, and the back of the speaker magnet does not hit the window (it's gotta be close, though).

damn, the mids i was planning on getting are too deep, i guess i'll have to build my kicks and get my tweeters with the mids all at once. i was planning on getting the mids first and put them in the doors till i get the tweets, and then build my kicks.

Yes you CAN install a 7" in the doors in the stock locations. I have the 7" Dyns in mine no problem. I even had them mounted in the stock mounts for about 2 years. You'll have no probs with it.

Whitemax, thanks for the info. But your 4th gen is undoubtedly different than our 5th gens.

And for everyone's info, us 5th gens have 5.25" speakers in the rear doors, not 6.5"s.

I have the Focal Polyglass 6.5" in my rear doors with the tweeters mounted on the (i guess you call it) the rear pillar...I always thought the sound was baffled in the rear, only hearing my subs, and those tweeters made suuuch a difference
