I am about to replace the non-Bose head unit in my '02 SE. The new HU is a Pioneer AVH-P3400BH. I am also going to install an Axxess ASWC to retain my steering wheel controls. The wiring harness I bought is the Scosche NN03B. I also have the NDAB antenna adapter.

As most of you know, the car's wiring harness has no ground wire(s). Position #9 of the 10-pin connector, which is supposed to be ground has no wire present. However, both the Scosche NN03b and Metra 70-7550 have a black ground wire in this position.

However, both of the aftermarket wiring harnesses have no wire present in position #7. According to the factory service manual, the wire in the harness at this position is supposed to be "illumination control". But when I check this wire with my meter, it is connected to ground! I tested this by connecting this wire to any metal point on the car's chassis.

Does anyone know if it would be safe to use this wire as my grounding point for the head unit and the ASWC?

If this would work it would make for a much cleaner/easier installation.

If anyone knows if this would or would not work, I would appreciate your input.

hi i would ground it to the cigar lighter instead the illumination wire can change state or it could be a dimmer wire the safes bet on these cars are either cigar lighter ir chassis ground

I figured that would probably be the best/safest route as well, so I grounded everything to the chassis. And believe it or not, everything works!
