my dad is interested on installing a remote car starter on his 2k frontier. Which brands are reliable? The only one I came across at the local WIZ was the clifford. If anyone has experience with remote starters, please post the brand, price and install price if possible. thanks a lot. PEACEE

Most all brands you can get are reliable, some jus come w/ better warranties than others. the price depends on what you want, Alarm w/remote start, or just the remote start.anywhere from 100,200,300$. there is good stuff on ebay too. if you need help puttin it in i could help a little, i just did mine about a month ago.

I got an Avital Alarm w/remote starter on my Caprice.
Avital is acutally part of the Clifford company. I have read alot about the G4 Cliffords and they look sweet.
The Avital I have is the 600 series. I got it about 10 months ago and it cost about 500 after labor and customizations...(remote windows, etc.).
I am very happy with the alarm....I needed to get it reprogrammed once but that was it.

The truth is i would have gotten the Clifford but the cheapest one was 1100 dollors.. (rememeber, this was almost a year ago).....

Hopefully when i get a Maxima i will get the Clifford.

Also..if you go to a shop, make sure you go to a good place. The shop i go to is luckily amazing..they give great service and do great work. i personally like it when i can go to the shop and see the owner there working and doing installs....(I am in MD)
..(in case you have not noticed...i hate shopping at the likes of best buy and circuit city)

I hope i was of some help and good luck.
Mike

Actually...I went to this all day edmunds program in DC to test drive cars........the best part of the day was that it was raining so we really had a chance to take the cars on the parking lot courses while it was pouring.
They had a 5th Gen GLE there which I must have driven 20 times....each time i loved it.
In the same day i tested a 3series, A4, 3.2TL, new I30, Intrigue, Altima, Lincoln LS etc...(yes they had accords and cateras...yippy
They even had a off road track for SUVS...

Anyways I loved the BMW but the Maxima was definitly so much better than the rest I30, LS, 3.2TL, etc...
(and remember it was pouring rain)
But the truth is, being a college student, I can't really afford a 5th gen. But I am graduating this May and then moving up to NYC..(brooklyn)...so the plan is to get a 4th gen now and then when i get a full time job i can go get a 5th gen. I gotta work my way up.
But i am very much looking forward to it....

BEWARE!

I just got my Avital 4500 remote starter/keyless entry installed and I might have a problem. The starter works fine but the heater/AC will not turn the fan on even though the heater/AC is on. Once I turn the key in the ignition, the fan comes on. So basically it is useless in the summer but in the winter it will warm the engine, but not the interior. I still have to ask the installer what's up. I had 2 cars done with same system and the other works fine. 1994 Mitsubishi Diamante and a 1995 Nissan Maxima SE with auto climate control. I need to find a way to trick the car into thinking the key has been turned. Anyone have a working system????? Please let me know!!

My Viper alarm came with the remote start option. It's pretty dope, especially when you wanna show off or just get the car cold or warm before you get in.
