Stock BOSE System Sucks..?

Hi, I just recently purchased a '03 Maxima GLE and it came equipped with a cheap aftermarket JVC head unit.
Here are the problems that I'm having:
Firstly, with any iPod, phone, or CD, I have to turn up the volume to at least 2/3rd's of the way up (it's 0-50, I have to turn it up to around 35 to hear any sound). When playing music through USB or AUX it sounds great until there's either a lot of treble or a lot of bass. It actually handles the bass okay, but while there is bass, the treble distorts like a motha and makes the song unlistenable (however say I'm listening to rap and there's a steady bass line with no vocals and just mid/low instrumentals everything sounds awesome).
Also, most of the time it sounds like more sound is coming from the front of the vehicle and less from the back/kicker. The JVC unit allows for pretty much no control of the sound besides volume and their preset EQs, so no whacky settings in there.

Is this just how the stock system sounds? Or do I have hope to fix this?
Any ideas? Thanks!

I'm pretty sure the headunit in there now doesn't produce the right amount of voltage (which is why you have to turn the volume all the way up) to power the bose system. I say just buy a Metra 7551 harness and an LOC and it will fix your problems.
