Car audio setup
Car audio setup
My vehicle: 6th Gen 2005 Nissan Maxima with Bose no nav.
I have not had the best of luck searching google and various forums for car audio builds specifically in the 6th gen maximas.
I have found many generic pre fab setups and a small amount of very well done custom builds.
I have also found many threads asking questions that never get answered or they do not receive a proper answer. I have looked through the stickies and found a few nice write ups.
Now to begin I would like enlightenment and clarity on some of the most asked questions(I will continue to update this list)
I have my opinions to answers, but would like to here others who are experienced and can provide detailed responses.

If you are not keeping the factory amp/speaker setup you will want to run your own rca and speaker wire connections.
Is a wire harness a must? No you can cut the wires if you insist but it makes things easier for you.
How do I connect a subwoofer to the factory headunit without distortion: Anyone with experience using multiple brands chip in...

I'm broke all I want is bass: Google LOC http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...FYVj7Aod3F4AZA
How do I wire a LOC? Splice into your rear speaker wire.
How many speakers do I have?
1" Tweeters mounted in the front door pillars, sails.
All doors have 6.5s, with Bose component speakers in front full range in rear.
Rear deck with have either 6*9s or adapter rings with 8s
Theoretically your vehicle has 8 speakers total.
What Ohm are my bose speakers wired to? Typically in our vehicle they are at 1ohm.
What is the mounting depth of the door speakers? I am not 100% positive so I will wait until someone can confirm this. 2.5"
Where is the factory amp? In the trunk to the right of the cargo lamp. Remove the carpet. It is silver.
Can I keep my steering wheel controls? Yes, http://www.metraonline.com/part/ASWC-1

How do I wire an aftermarket amp? You need power, ground, and remote turn on wires. You will also need RCA wires feeding the signal from the headunit to the amp and speaker wires from the amp to your speakers/subs.
What gauge wire should I buy? Bigger is better however bigger costs more. In awg standards bigger is the smaller number therefore 2 is bigger than 4. I recommend at least 4gauge be careful when purchasing wire. Avoid ebay, Use name brands, inspect the wire just because it looks big doesnt mean the wire inside is big(rubber housing). Look at the Wiki of AWG wire to determine what is best for your application.

Factory alternator specs?
What is the big 3? It increases the flow capacity and efficiency of your factory power system. This a key aspect of gaining "power" on a budget. You will want to run a new ground cable(ideally 0 gauge) from battery to alternator, battery to ground and potentially a better battery.
My trunk rattles:
Quick fix is to wedge foam material or thick fabric around all sides of your rear deck taillight. This is not a perfect fix.
Proper fix which is time consuming, remove the rear deck(will illustrate this process below) properly sound dampen around the rear deck and third brake light.
I still hear rattle: Remove your license plate and place a sound dampening material on the back of it.
It still rattles: You must have some bass... It is time to dampen your entire truck. This will require around 80sq ft.
Wow thats expensive: Well save you pasos its well worth it.
I still hear rattle: Have you checked your taillights, ensure they are properly tightened, apply some sealent or spray foam and dampen the area heavily.
My trunk still rattles: Well WTF do you want from me! Remove king kong from your trunk now before you cause irreversible damage to your vehicle and your ears.
Whats the best sound deadener bang for buck?
If my speaker blows, stops working or is producing unwated noise what should I do? My opinion is to replace it with a decent aftermarket speaker and to do this in pairs(If the right speaker goes out and you replace with aftermarket do the same for the left speaker). Replacing with a factory speaker will be pricey and yield mediocre sound results. It is recommended that you also replace the bose amp at this point since it is running at 1ohm and most aftermarket speakers aren't meant to run at 1ohm.
If all my speakers produce a buzzing sound does this mean something is wrong? Well yes, but it does not mean it is coming from the audio. You should check your vehicles ground wires , make sure no wires are exposed and if it persists check your alternator.
My cd player stopped working. What can I do?
Where is the AUX plug? It is located on the factory headunit board(I will insert writeup to this once I find a good one) or you can use an adapter from crutchfield or a cheap cassette with aux plug.
Trying to gather all helpful information and place it in one area.
Mods feel free to tweak things and anyone who reads this and has information to add please do so and I will continue to update. I have to go now, but will continue this today. Thanks

Saved for previous builds
I have changed the audio setup entirely, not just small changes, three times on my max.
The following pics will illustrate the road I have been down.
Now I am ready to take it to a different dimension and one option is over the top. Building a custom enclosure where the subwoofers are mounted firing through the rear deck and the enclosure is ported through the backseats center armrest. Unless I can perfect this design I want to stay away.
The other option I have is something that I have seen online and with a few members here however since they originally pursued the idea many years have past and technology has advanced.
This idea is an IB (infinite Baffle) setup. Using the rear deck to mount the subwoofers and sealing the front waves of the sub from the rear. This way eliminates the use of an enclosure, saves weight and has the potential to be a stealth setup.
