Jumper Cables Backwards = Dead Nav/Control Panel
Jumper Cables Backwards = Dead Nav/Control Panel
I posted this in the 7th Gen section yesterday. I'm hoping that some new eyes will see it here...
So I pulled the ultimate WTF moment when I was jumping my battery yesterday. And the worst part is that it was my wife who told me what I did wrong!!! I hooked the negative cable to my positive battery stud and I hooked the positive cable to the ground in my Max. After about three seconds of this trying to melt my car I was able to get it off. I hooked it up correctly and the car started up with no problem.
Now the problem - My control panel is now dead. I have no radio/gps/backup camera/environmental control. Everything in the center control panel is now dead. I'm hoping that this is an easy fix. Can anyone point me to the correct fuse or fusible link that could be the culprit?
Thanks in advance.
I checked out all of the fuses yesterday and couldn't find any that were bad. I even checked the fuses that are hooked to the battery (fusible links?). Not sure where to go now.
I did purchase the Nissan Extended warranty so I am hoping that will cover this. Thoughts on that?

Reversing the polarity of your entire electrical system is bad news. You would assume that most of the components were designed with reverse protection, but when it comes to something like an LCD panel, that might not be the case. You could download the FSM and check the power routing to everything that doesn't work and check any associated fuses, links or breakers. It's a good idea to disconnect that battery for awhile, for one it's probably damaged, and two it will clear the memory of all electrical devices. You never know what kind of protection circuitry exists.
If you go in for the warranty, it's probably not a great idea to tell them about this little incident.
