Disabled features when you replace CD/Cassette area with aftermarket stereo?

I've purchased a 2006 Nissan Maxima SE
The car is not yet in my possession.
The previous owner installed a "New Sound System"

He told me that some features are now disabled, such as the Driver's seat and steering wheel re-positioning themselves when turning the car on/off, and the compass no longer works?
Why is this?
What else stopped working because of it?
And can I fix it?

Possible that some of these features used a ground connection that was only part of the factory headunit. Do any of the steering wheel wheel control buttons work such as the volume up/down buttons?
